The Ether Banshee

Rabid rabbits

Howling over

Crumpled AstroTurf

And neon eggs

That a robin would abandon

In the nest

As fake fur chicks

And plastic posers

Pallidly imitate the rites of the season.

Sugar and lard stuffed

Animal copycats

Lining bakery cases

With clenching claws and

Gnawing fangs

At every innocent

Some not so innocent patrons.

Candy coated purple sheep

Begging a little respect and a shave,

Cunning hawks, flying at full force,

Steal the edible parcels.

Someone yells, “Hey! Come back here!”

After buying into it all…
